National policy-makers fill our eyes and ears with the cry that COVID-19 is overwhelming America’s hospitals — especially in Florida, where Governor Ron DeSantis differs with national policy-makers.
On September 25, 2021, the Naples Daily News published a September 24, 2021 article titled “NCH Healthcare System starting elective surgeries; the hospital reinstates limited patient visitation”. The NCH Healthcare System is one of the two main hospital systems in Naples, Florida (which is in Collier County, Florida). As reported in the article, “The NCH Healthcare System is resuming elective surgeries Monday. In addition, the hospital system in Collier County is allowing limited patient visitation. Both moves are due to declining COVID-19 hospitalizations”.
As reported on the website of Florida’s Department of Health, the weekly number of new cases of COVID-19 as of September 17, 2021 (not deaths or hospitalizations, just new cases) is the lowest weekly number since July 16, 2021 or earlier. In fact, September 17, 2021 is 22% lower than July 16, 2021.
Few Americans living outside Florida read the Naples Daily News or the website of Florida’s Department of Health. In other words, few Americans know the truth. And few Americans have any reason to ask questions of national policy-makers. And that’s the way national policy-makers like it.
COVID-19 is not an existential threat. The absence of truth is.
